Cole Announcement on Gubernatorial BidNorman, OK, Oklahoma Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole provided the following statement earlier today.
I have been humbled by the number of people who have encouraged me to run for Governor. I love Oklahoma and our people and I know it would be an honor and a privilege to serve them in our state’s highest office.
But I also am very honored to serve the citizens of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives. More importantly, I believe the most significant challenges facing Oklahoma, indeed the entire country, are federal in nature. Getting the economy back on track, maintaining a strong national defense, securing our borders, protecting our constitutional rights, keeping taxes low and addressing the looming crisis in entitlements must be our national priorities. And I believe I am in the strongest position to effectively look after Oklahoma’s interests by remaining in the House.
I believe 2010 is going to be a strong year for Oklahoma Republicans. My decision was made easier by the knowledge that our party has no shortage of strong, talented leaders who can not only wage a successful campaign, but more importantly, who can govern our state wisely in what will surely be challenging times.
I look forward to working with our Congressional delegation, as well as our current and future state leadership, to improve the lives and secure the future for Oklahoma’s families.

It is a good thing that our congressman is staying in DC at this crucial time in America.
