Have you read your automobile manual that came with your car? If so, you may have seen where it recommends that you roll down your windows when entering a hot car and before you turn on your air conditioning.
Why roll down your car windows upon entering your car?
During the summer, the inside of your car can reach temperatures well over 120 degrees. A person’s first action upon entering their car and
starting it is to reach down and crank up the AC. Not know the risk of cancer that they are exposing themselves to each time.
The reason for this life saving procedure is the carcinogen of Benzene. According to research, most car dashboards, seats, carpet and even the air fresheners emit Benzene. Benzene is a cancer causing toxin and is a poison to your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia and can cause miscarriages.
Acceptable Benzene levels indoors are 50mg per square foot. A car parked indoors with the windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the Benzene level goes up to 2000 – 4000 mg. That is 40 times acceptable levels.
So when you get into your car and keep the windows closed, you will inhale excessive amounts of the toxin. Breathing in quick excessive amounts of toxin can go immediately to your kidneys and liver. What’s worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.
The best practice to reduce your exposure to Benzene and other harmful toxins from inside your car is to roll down your windows by a half of an inch when getting out of your car. Then upon entering your car leave your door open for a few seconds and rolling down your windows. This will allow the toxins to naturally escape your car. After driving a few minute, then turn your AC up until it is a comfortable temperature in your car.
