Someone who READS and UNDERSTANDS "The Constitution"….

BTW Bill O’Reily is no way not even close to a Conservative, obviously you watch a lot of MSNBC to come to that conclusion.. Bill O’Reily is percieved as a Conservative by the far left media (MSNBC) as he calls them on all their BS..

  2. Andy says:

This is entirely too complicated. Technically there aren’t any American conservatives since the US was born out of revolution. The people you name are actually "modern conservatives".

  3. Grand Theft Pants™ (the 4th) says:

To help you better understand Conservatism you should read "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin.

  4. YANK says:

Someone who stands by there country original morals and values. Also known as a Patriot.

  5. Charity-Case says:

For the most part, they are Republicans who wants society to remain unchanged over time.

You listed a very wide array of political views with those people. They are not all "great conservatives," and some make up more of the fringe than the mass of the ideology.

Conservatism (Latin: conservare, "to preserve") is a political and social philosophy that holds that traditional institutions work best and that society should avoid radical change. Some conservatives seek to preserve things as they are, emphasizing stability and continuity, while others oppose modernism and seek a return to the way things were.[1][2] The first established use of the term in a political context was by François-René de Chateaubriand in 1819, following the French Revolution.[3] The term has since been used to describe a wide range of views. R. J. White wrote: "To put conservatism in a bottle with a label is like trying to liquify the atmosphere… The difficulty arises from the nature of the thing. For conservatism is less a political doctrine than a habit of mind, a mode of feeling, a way of living."[4]

Political science often credits British politician Edmund Burke with many of the ideas that we now call conservative.[5]

Conservative political parties include the Liberal Democratic Party in Japan, the Republican Party in the United States, the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, the Liberal Party of Australia, and the Bharatiya Janata Party in India.

hello, hey, I am an Independent Conservative. I work hard from age 13. Everything I have I earned. I never was on any government handouts. I buy what I want within the limits of what I can afford, including my health ins, private schools for my kids and such. I believe that there is power much larger than I am, and I teach my kids to recognize this and to follow divine moral values to the max. I take care of my elders and my neediest as much as I can, after I took care of my children and my immediate family. All I want is today’s fascist government get the hell outta my business and SERVE We the People, as oppose of We The People serving them (e.g., hussein obama, nancy, crap reid, etc.). That’s what Conservative is EXACTLY. Hope it helps

The term conservative is actually a pretty broad term, just as liberal is broad. Basically, you have fiscal conservatives and social conservatives. Fiscal conservatives believe that taxes should be kept low, and spending should be kept low as well. Social conservatives tend to be against gay marriage, tough on drugs, pro-life, etc. As far as foreign policy, it depends, most conservatives tend to be Republican, and most Republicans tend to be stronger with defense. However, I would like to point out that this is not always the case. Ron Paul, probably one of the most fiscally conservative members of Congress, is a Republican, and does not agree with the current wars. The term actually covers a wide spectrum of people, you also have Blue Dog Democrats, which are fiscally conservative.

the US conservative and Libertarian (classical liberal) – believe that the role of the government is basically to be some sort of a referee in the game of life allowing us to compete with some basic rules so that we will be able to achieve to the limits of our natural abilities and talents so should be limited to enforcing a few regulations. and maintiang a police and military force.
They also believe that people volunteering to help those around them will be better at providing a hand up than a government program.

Conservatives are folks who pine for the America of the 1930′s, when white christian men held all the wealth and power and women and non-whites were 2nd class citizens, when industry polluted as much as it wanted, when workers had no rights, when the criminal justice sytem and police forces were corrupt, when gays were beaten and murdered and nobody cared, when poverty and hunger ran rampant and there was no government assistance.

    Except they like modern automobiles.

  13. FranciscoM says:

There are indeed many forms of conservatism, but in a nut shell, conservatives share a belief in personal responsibility, moral values and limited government. A true conservative will champion liberty, strong national defense, individual and economic freedom, the sanctity of human life and equal opportunity for all (not equal results).

While liberals see the government as a paternal figure that must protect and guide the people, conservatives view the government as a tool limited to those few specific areas enumerated in the Constitution.

Liberals see Congress and the President as rulers that must be obeyed, while conservatives view them as employees of the people who elected them.

Liberals view the judicial branch as having the right to legislate from the bench with the ability to "discover" and grant new rights, while conservatives view the judicial as those in charge of interpreting the laws, following the strict letter of the law.

  14. Oilfieldguy says:

The kindest thing I can say about your post is Epic Fail. Trying to define conservatism within the framework of those you list as “great conservatives” is akin to defining love by listing pornstars as ideal lovers.

Do not confuse what is marketable success with mainstream popularity. Now, am I talking about Rush, or Linda Lovelace? You see the problem.

The more popular the three stooges I mentioned above become, the more marginalized conservatives will become. Like pornography, shock jocks must continually get more rude for titillation which drives ratings. The radical spewings are deemed unserious by media as are their fans. Moderates are driven from the party and electoral losses result.

A conservative is reasonable. A government program for every social ill is not reasonable. We need reasonable conservatives. Unfortunately, some feel that Oxymoronic degenerate drug addicts are “good conservatives.” And their are millions of them driving the conservative bus.
