Hands Outs For Nothing Don’t Stimulate The Economy
As part of President Obama’s “Stimulus Package,” the government will be dishing out a huge, automatic raise in Food Stamp payments. More than one out of ten Americans are already getting free Food Stamps to pay for their groceries and these people will enjoy an average 13.6% increase without even having to apply for it. Defenders of this policy say that with more money to spend on food, the Food Stamps recipients – including many medical students and law students -will have funds left over for other spending to stimulate the economy. In truth, however, giving out more money for no extra effort isn’t a way to stimulate anything, and encouraging more dependency on government hardly energizes the economy. The only real stimulus involves more reward for building things and creating wealth, not more hand-outs for doing nothing
